I'd also recommend
Portobello Dental on the SCR.
I have quite a bad phobia of the dentist and came across them simply by phoning lots n lots of names in the Golden Pages. I still get stressed out attending the dentist, but the ones in
Portobello have an excellent manner and it helps calm me down a lot.

Have just returned back to looking after my teeth after 20 years.
Had dentist (
Portobello Clinic - top job!) and now got appointment with hygenist next.
What does the hygenist do? Is it just cleaning / advising how to clean teeth and gums?

after having somewhat of a fear of dentists i finally bit the bullet myself yesteray and visited
portobello dental clinic.
3 weeks ago i woke up with an almighty pain in one of my back bottom teeth which was partly decayed, i coudlnt sleep for days so made an appointment.
2 weeks ago i visited them and was informed that they coudlnt perform an extraction while the tooth had an abcess under it, some two week later and plently of antibiotics i went yesterday after work
the dentist i was seen by was riley lewis, from the start he made me feel extremely at ease and i coudl hardly believe how easy and relaxing the whole experience was
i needed an extraction and a filling, the whole process took no longer then half an hour and no word of a lie i did not feel one ounce of pain!
i was genuinely shocked how quickly and painlessly he did the whole procedure
for those who may have a phobia i too was in your shoes and would wholeheartedly recommend them. im even going abck to get some brideges put in place for the two teeth i have missing and am not worried about it one bit.
im delighted!
they also offer sedation(put you to sleep but it costs a fair bit) for those who really have a bad phobia, but to be honest you dont need it.
they also ask before you go down for your rsi number and deduct the cost from that aswell!
all in all a suoper dentists and i shall be going there for the rest of my time if i can!

I’ve always been pretty scared of the dentist, and have been put off by bad experiences and botch jobs in the past. I went to see one in town the other day and was really impressed. His name is Nicholas Beirne, and the pracice is
Portobello Dental Clinic on South Circular Road.
The staff were really friendly and the waiting room was ok, although the seats weren't great - some of the most uncomfortable I ever sat on . Anyway, when I went in for the dreaded consultation I don’t mind admitting that my knees were like jelly. Normally I was used to the dentist having a bit of a poke, but this guy spent ages looking around, checked everything, took x-rays, asked me what I did and didn’t like, it was all really new to me. He was really nice and didn’t make me feel bad for having crappy teeth. At the end I got a printed estimate which was all really clear.
Since then I’ve had 2 visits for treatment and its worked out great– he even showed me pictures of my old silver fillings and the new white ones he had put in - it looks pretty good to me! The most important thing though – it DIDN’T hurt and my faith is restored!

IMO the needle is the only sore part of a filling... However some dentists have a technique of putting in the needle without you feeling it.. they pull your cheek a certain way when doing it... The dentist I go to in
Portobello is great..
Helen Walsh is her name.. Always makes me feel at ease too.. I do hate the drilling though, and although it has never happened and probably never will, I'm always terrified the drill will slip Oh and don't ever touch anything metal like a fork off a new filling... Take it from me.. You will hit the roof

I can happily recommend the Portobello Dental Clinic
I went to see Nick in there and I explained to him that I can be nervous when in the dentist chair and can be a big baby when it comes to oral surgery. He was really re-assuring and comforting. Anything he did he told me exactly what he was doing beforehand and what the reasons were. I have to go back in the new year to get more work done and I will be confident that i will be comfortable.

I just put a recommendation on another thread for Nicholas Beirne, also
Portobello Clinic, there are just the two of them there so looks like you can't go wrong.

That sounds really awful! When you take responsibility for your health the last thing you should get is a lecture or be made to feel depressed.

I also dont know too much about how to claim things back on tax etc. but the receptionist was very helpful with this too.

I know what you are going through. It took me 7 years to muster up the courage and get to a dentist. I was terrified also, until I went to go see my current dentist;
Dr. Riley Lewis. He's at
Portobello Dental Clinic on the south circular road, D8. He's a young guy from Canada, and is brilliant with nervous patients. He was recommended to me by another friend with the same problem.
Anyway, he really put me at ease by being really calm and patient with me. He carries himself so well. He is the first dentist I've been to who sits you down, and explains what treatment you need and why. He showed me the xrays, and took pictures of my teeth inside my mouth and put them up on a screen. By the second appointment I was completly at ease, and laughing with him (him and his nurse are funny). Anyway, I've sent in my husband, some friends and my children to see him, and they all love him too! The prices weren't bad either! And for the ladies; he's GORGEOUS!

I have a FANTASTIC dentist; His name is
Dr. Riley Lewis, and he's at
Portobello Dental Clinic on the south circular road; He's just lovely, calming, patient and friendly. And it's not too expensive compared to other dentists also.
